Something Known As Payola
Paying to Get Your Music Heard Perfectly Legal in On-line World of Internet Radio From Corey Deitz, Your Guide to Radio. FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Dateline: 03/16/06 It’s not easy getting exposure for your music - and it's especially hard in the world of terrestrial radio.
In the past, music companies and promoters have been caught paying radio stations for "spins" or song plays - something known as Payola. Of course, payola is illegal - on terrestrial radio. But, paying for exposure is not illegal in the world of on-line radio and that’s exactly what you can do on the American Idol Underground radio networks. If you’re in a band or an artist looking for exposure, this might be what you've been looking for.
American Idol Underground is working in conjunction with 19 Entertainment, Ltd., the company which produces the television show, American Idol. Basically, it’s an on-line community where new and emerging artists can get their music played on a variety of Internet radio stations. Actually, there are 52 different stations broken down into 13 styles of music including: Pop, Rock, R&B, Rap, Country, Jazz, Folk, Electronic, World, Classical, Faith-based, Spoken Word, and Comedy.
If you think it’s time you or your band should be heard, then you can pay to have it happen - and the F.C.C. can’t do a thing about it! Here’s the idea behind American Idol Underground: You or your band set-up a free account which allows you to list biographical information and photographs. Then, for a fee, you can submit songs to the American Idol Underground web site. Your song is guaranteed a minimum of 200 plays on the American Idol Underground’s online radio network. In addition to that, you also receive artist profile pages, unlimited on-demand plays of your music by fans and site visitors, and the ability to sell your your music on line. Fans looking for new music join for free to listen and rate your music.
People who register to listen and rate also have chances at winning prizes. The more a user listens and rates, the better their chances of winning. The higher a song is rated, the more play it gets on the radio network. Plus: the best songs from each genre win money, equipment, artist promotion packages, and more. Whether you want to get your music heard or just want to listen and rate, you can click to register directly at American Idol Underground and good luck!

Now For What Do I Look For As An Artist
The first thing I look for is the talent; everyone that wants to be a singer, or rapper, or poet, doesn't necessaraly have the talent. Talent is what I call; a gift. One doesn't just claim the tittle of artist; just because they want to be one. Look up the difinition of artist; An artist in my opinion; is one who's born with the gift of creativity, and then there comes the stage of developement to perfection. A gifted artist's work is felt, seen, and heard in a way; that identifys the uniqueness of the artist; it identifys that something that I call the signiture of an artist. He/ she doesnt choose it, or come up with it; it is given by gift.
I can listen to a few measures, or bars of voice, and tell right away if the person has the potential to become an artist, or not. Melody is the most important thing; to be able to create melody; is an art in it'sel, One who not only hears a melody in his head, but also able to duplicate it in voice, and twist the knotes in a way that; if he hits anote that he hear flat or sharpe from what he heard; he's able to quickly twist it, bend it, so that it fits in to the key of the song; in a way that is accepted by the ear of a developed artist, or even a listener who is not an artist; believe me, the adverage person who listen to a person singing; can tell right away if they're singing off key. It's something about melody, and where to play the knotes in it, that determins if you are accepted as a good singer or not.
So there you have it; those are the things I look for, not in an artist, but as an artist.
